Skip to content Dr. Katherine Townsend, received her degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Delaware in 2008. Dr.Townsend continued her education at the Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia, where she also completed a mission trip to Jamaica, providing dental care to those in need. She went on to continue her clinical training at the Christiana Care General Practice Dental Residency program in Wilmington, DE. The one-year residency program sets dentists up for success by training them in advanced restorative procedures, dental implantology, oral surgery and comprehensive treatment of medically compromised patients. After completing her residency, Dr. Townsend worked for several years at Westside family Healthcare, a non-profit organization dedicated to treating the underserved communities. Dr. Townsend joined Maplewood Dental Associates in 2018 to allow for further growth of her clinical skills. She continues to volunteer as a staff dentist at the Christiana Care Hospital Residency program to help educate the incoming Delaware dentists.
To better serve her patients, Dr. Townsend stays current in the filed of dentistry with continuing education courses, including advanced restorative and implant workshops at both the Spear Education Institute and CDOCS institute in Scottsdale, Arizona. She has recently begun the vigorous curriculum at the well- known Kois Center in Seattle, which has allowed her treat comprehensive restorative, cosmetic and occlusal dysfunction cases. She is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry and the Delaware State Dental Society. She is an active member in the local Kent and Sussex Dental Society, holding the position of new member recruitment.
Originally from Middletown, Delaware, Dr. Townsend is eager to be near the beach but happy to still be close to family and friends. Always having a love for dogs, she has adopted two rescues from local shelters over the years. You can often find her running with Willow and Ginny around town! She also enjoys reading, yoga and traveling the world with her husband.
